San Jose Mission, San Antonio

On a recent trip to Texas to visit family, we stopped off in San Antonio to visit the San Jose Mission, which is a peaceful and beautifully preserved monument on the outskirts of the city. Here are some photos of this extensive national monument.

The main Mission Plaza with the church - green and peaceful, with the residences for the native American Indians who lived there built all around the square

Shadows along the cloistered side walls
One of several wooden gates inside the Mission. They reminded me of the gates of forts seen in cowboy films, with the overhead wooden platform and small openings to shoot through and defend against invaders.

Attractive archway inside the Mission complex
