London Paralympics 2012

The Olympic Stadium and the wild flower meadows
I've been to the 2012 Paralympics in London, thanks to daughter for organising the visit for a group of 16 of us, adults and children. It was an amazing experience to be in the Olympic Stadium for track and field events, with Team GB getting silver in the women's long jump, and gold in the men's discus while I was there. It was also special being there with children - easy to see how much they gained and learned from the day. I found myself explaining what the starting pistol was to two of them, and assuring them no bullets were involved! Here are some photos of the day and the events.
The group who shared this happy experience
First sight of the Stadium and the Orbit sculpture on arrival at 08.30
There are plenty of signs to show the way. This one was also saying "Good Morning"
View of the Stadium before the events started
The Olympic Flame burning in the Cauldron
Women's long jump in process
Wheelchair sprint - very fast!
Discus event - won by Team GB's Aled Davies
Here he is crossing the track after a massive gold medal throw
And here shown on the big screen doing his lap of honour
The Stadium erupted when he got the gold
After the excitement there was time for a walk in the Olympic Park
And time for a Mother/Daughter picture at the end of the visit

I'm in the group photo! Yay! It was a fantastic day. My favourite part was when the athletes who came in last, in various running heats, got the most amazingly loud cheers! Thanks for sharing xx
